For
this writing project I will be using an academic peer-reviewed article and
translating it into two different genres that are geared toward different
audiences. The article that I will be analyzing is one on computer-aided
technology applied in 3D animation modeling design. In this article Zhili Xu,
the author, discusses how current technology with computers and software can
greatly help the creation of 3D animation for multiple reasons. He explains how
the improvement and advancement in computers should also lead to the
advancement of the quality of 3D animation. Successful design of
animation modelings can not only get loved and respected by audience, enhance
the box-office appeal of the animation itself, but also play a vital role for
the development of the entire animation industry and its derivative industry.
He also mentions how the combination of computer skills and artistic skill is
essential in order to develop the entertainment industry.
I plan on making this appeal to a
younger audience by discussing this topic in a genre of a picture book. I would
use examples of animation movies such as Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Kung Fu
Panda, and plenty more. I could discuss the art of animation by using pictures
of computers as well as different characters in animation. I really feel like
the use of animated movies such as the Pixar films will help my appeal to the
younger children however it is also important to get across the importance of
the computers behind these animations. In order to accomplish this goal I would
compare computers as being a part of a recipe in order to create the finished
product.
The other audience that I would need
to appeal to is the older audience. One way that I feel is the best way to
appeal to the older audience is by transforming it into a newspaper article.
This could be by making the headline as “Computers Becoming Extremely Essential
in the Creation of Animations” and having the actual content be about the
correlation between the animations and computer skills. It can also discuss the
entertainment industry and Hollywood. The newspaper article can show how the
skills that one can learn through computer animation could possibly lead to a
job in the future. This would also show how computer animation is actually
important in the economy and can help people find jobs in a competitive
economy. It could also tie it into the college courses offered in colleges and
the need for these types of classes in college to be encouraged and supported.
These are all just possible ideas of how I would change the original
peer-reviewed article into something that appeals to little kids as well as
older people.
This would mean that I have to use
the conventions present in the academic article and turn them into conventions
of a picture book and a newspaper article. I would also have to choose which
information to include as well as which details are not as important to the
audience and purpose.
Wow I really think your topic is interesting and pretty unique. I like that you gave a little summary of the article, and it made me think it would probably be smart to do so in the follow up paper for the transformation of genres. I transforming this topic to appeal to a younger audiences is a challenge, but you have it planned out well. I really think your plan of using Disney animated movies is really smart! Im a little confused about the recipe part though. I think a newspaper article is perfect for an older audience too. It’s something I would definitely expect to find, with your title too. I also like how youre going to tie it in to the economy because this is a convention geared towards and older audience who is often concerned with the state of our economy. I think your layout is well organized and thought through thoroughly.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting and specific topic...I'd have a tough time converting it (and even understanding it for that matter), so I am impressed! In the second paragraph, you first mention using animated movies as an example, but then you say that you're going to use recipes. How do these/will these tie in together? In your newspaper article, how old is the audience you're appealing to? At first, I thought you were going to appeal to elderly people, but then you discuss using computer animation skills to find jobs, which would apply to a younger "old" audience, who may not be as likely to look into a newspaper. This isn't for sure, just a thought! I really like the topic and overall ideas, well done!
ReplyDeleteI think your idea is very original and well thought out. Also, I enjoy that you are going to appeal to a younger audience by using the genre of a picture book. It’s a really great idea to uses examples of animation movies that they all would know about. The newspaper article is also a good idea to appeal to an older audience. The older audience’s article should definitely more information packed than the younger audience’s. A point you made that I think is a great idea is writing in the newspaper about how computer animation can help people find jobs in a competitive economy. Adding facts about how computer animation could improve economic factors would defiantly is appealing to that kind of audience.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really cool, original idea, and it definitely seems like you have a lot in mind for both of these transformations. Just one specific question – is the “computer recipe” supposed to be a second genre for the younger audience? Or is it going to be just another part of the picture book? That being said, I like the reasoning you have for this transformation. Showing the pictures of the animation itself is a great idea, as the kids would certainly enjoy seeing the process behind animation. For this audience, using the Pixar movies is definitely a nice touch too. I also enjoyed your ideas for the older audience; expanding to talk about the industry and economy is a good idea, and the tie-in to college courses is excellent, as it would open the audience up to another demographic. Once the specifics are in place, I think you’ll be able to do really well with these ideas.
